Instructions

  1. 01
Preheat your broiler. Arrange the bread slices on a baking sheet and brush both sides lightly with 2 tablespoons of olive oil.
  2. 02
Broil bread for 1-2 minutes per side, until golden and crisp. Immediately rub one side of each hot slice with 2 garlic cloves. Set aside.
  3. 03
Heat the remaining 2 tablespoons olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until just browned, about 4 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  4. 04
Thinly slice the remaining 4 garlic cloves and add to the beef. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  5. 05
Add chopped tomatoes, kosher salt, black pepper, oregano, and red pepper flakes. Stir well, scraping up any browned bits from the pan.
  6. 06
Simmer uncovered for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the tomatoes have broken down and the sauce is thickened.
  7. 07
Stir in torn basil leaves just before serving.
  8. 08
Spoon the beef and tomato mixture into shallow bowls. Serve with the garlic toast alongside for dipping and scooping.
