Herb's take
Welcome to the avant-garde world of the deconstructed sandwich: inspired by Italian antipasti platters and American diner charm, this dinner lets everyone play chef at the table. You’ll pan-fry frozen chicken patties to a crisp, toast up two breads, and spotlight lettuce as a refreshing counterpoint, all arranged for maximal mix-and-match potential.

Instructions
- 01Heat 2 tablespoons neutral oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Once shimmering, add the frozen chicken patties and cook for 5 to 6 minutes per side until golden brown and fully heated through.
- 02While the patties cook, preheat your oven broiler or a toaster oven. Arrange the white and whole wheat bread slices on a baking sheet.
- 03Lightly spread the softened butter on one side of each bread slice. Broil or toast until just golden at the edges, about 1 to 2 minutes. Watch closely to prevent burning.
- 04Stack and slice the toasted white and wheat bread on a diagonal, creating a variety of shapes for your platter.
- 05Arrange the cooked chicken patties, toasted bread pieces, and shredded lettuce on a large serving platter.
- 06Place mayonnaise, mustard, and ketchup in separate small ramekins or bowls for easy serving.
- 07Bring everything to the table and let each diner assemble their own creation, layering bread, lettuce, chicken, and condiments as inspiration strikes.
