Instructions

  1. 01
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat until shimmering.
  2. 02
Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds, just until fragrant.
  3. 03
Add the ground beef and diced onion. Cook, breaking up the meat with a spatula, until beef is no longer pink and onions are translucent, about 6 minutes.
  4. 04
Sprinkle in the crushed red pepper flakes and stir for 30 seconds to bloom their flavor.
  5. 05
Add the chopped tomatoes, tomato paste, dried oregano, kosher salt, and black pepper. Stir well to combine, then bring to a simmer.
  6. 06
Reduce heat to medium-low and let the mixture cook uncovered for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until tomatoes break down and sauce thickens.
  7. 07
Remove skillet from heat. Drizzle in the balsamic vinegar and stir.
  8. 08
Fold in half of the chopped basil and taste for seasoning, adjusting salt or pepper if needed.
  9. 09
Serve hot, sprinkled with the remaining basil and a generous shower of grated parmesan cheese.
