Instructions
- 01Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat until shimmering.
- 02Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds, just until fragrant.
- 03Add the ground beef and diced onion. Cook, breaking up the meat with a spatula, until beef is no longer pink and onions are translucent, about 6 minutes.
- 04Sprinkle in the crushed red pepper flakes and stir for 30 seconds to bloom their flavor.
- 05Add the chopped tomatoes, tomato paste, dried oregano, kosher salt, and black pepper. Stir well to combine, then bring to a simmer.
- 06Reduce heat to medium-low and let the mixture cook uncovered for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until tomatoes break down and sauce thickens.
- 07Remove skillet from heat. Drizzle in the balsamic vinegar and stir.
- 08Fold in half of the chopped basil and taste for seasoning, adjusting salt or pepper if needed.
- 09Serve hot, sprinkled with the remaining basil and a generous shower of grated parmesan cheese.
